Analytical essay

Introduction

An analytical essay is a type of writing in which the things are broken-down into parts to present an argument or to discuss something. Then they are analyzed thoroughly; it is called an analytical essay. In other words, it resembles an illustration essay in some way. The difference between an analytical essay and different types of essays is that an analytical essay mainly aims at explaining anything bit by bit so that the understanding of it is enhanced. Analytical essays are mostly written to explain an idea, to describe a process, to analyze a text. However, it refers to the critical analysis of some literary text in literature so that understanding will increase. The writing of an analytical essay has a more narrowed focus as compared to a summary. The pros and cons must also be present in an analytical essay. To analyze the chosen topic, one must explore different points to claim the discussion. Such analytical work is for a movie, scientific research, or an event. For example, if we write an analytical essay about a book, then we have to deeply observe it and analyze how its author wrote it, which methods are used by the author, and how this book is conveying its ideas and messages to its readers. Thus, smaller parts of things are observed that help us to shed light on the larger picture in an analytical essay.

Main Body

To write an analytical essay, the foremost thing is to create an outline. It will help to structure our essay and thus make the writing easier. To shape, one should brainstorm the ideas related to the topic and do some quality research. Therefore, it will help to put the things in the right order as all the ideas that were present in the head must be in the form of an outline. An outline must be kind enough to give a clear and logical analytical work so that the readers can understand it with ease in no time. The three essential parts of an analytical essay are

  • Introduction
  • Body part
  • Conclusion

Introduction part of an analytical essay

The introduction mainly aims at developing the interest of the reader by giving the background knowledge of the topic. It is like a road map for the readers. There is always some issue raised in any literary work. So, the introduction is the part where the idea or the item is defined, and then it is further analyzed. An opening will get the readers into an exciting trip to the topic. It should not be over-zealous but should only be engaging. The three main parts of an introduction are a hook, a thesis statement, and two or more sentences to prove the thesis statement.

1. Hook

Тhe catch is the most surprising and exciting part of the introduction of an analytical essay. One must add the hook line in the article to grab the attention of the reader. To make an essay exciting and fascinating, one must include rhetorical questions in it, like ask a joke, tell a quote, or some factor should cause an unusual or a controversial statement. It can combine several things to draw the attention of the reader in as there will not be another chance to impress the readers. The hook line is a line to seek the attention of the audience.

2. Thesis Statement

After hooking the reader, there comes the point of the topic by a killer thesis statement. The primary purpose of the thesis statement is to notify the audience about the subject of an analytical essay and to explain the analytical work. The thesis statement allows the readers to understand the topic of the article and its purpose.

3. Back up the thesis

To provide a claim to the thesis statement is also essential, and the last part of the introduction of an analytical essay. These statements will also help in continuing the second part of the analytical essay, i.e., body part. If a person writes a book, then the main focus is on the argument which uses the literature methods. If the analytical essay is about some old thing, then the main reason beyond the happening of that particular historical event that needs the analysis. If the base of an analytical essay is on some research or scientific finding, then one should use the scientific methods to make the analysis.

Body of the Analytical Essay

It is the part of the analytical essay where a person can play around formatting and can be the most creative. The body part of an analytical essay comprises three or more paragraphs as long as the thesis statement needs support. Each section starts with a topic sentence that consists of three sets of claims, including some evidence to support those claims, and the evidence should be such that it can tie back to the topic sentence. A lot of proof should provide support for every request, and there must be at least five claims to support the topic sentence. Each paragraph of the body of an analytical essay includes these parts

  1. Topic Sentence The presence of a persuasive topic sentence in each body paragraph of the systematic article will help the reader to know what discussion is going in this paragraph.
  2. Claim There must be a composition of a claim which will help to dive into smaller parts of the complex topic sentence. The topic sentence of the body paragraph can also be broken down into several lower claims.
  3. Evidence to support the application one can never support claims without strong proofs. So, one must provide evidence to support a particular request. One can utilize the evidence, quotes, or paraphrase parts to prove their statement.
  4. Tie that evidence back to the topic sentence, the purpose of the addition of proof must be crystal clear. If anyone fails to make the intention clear, then there is a risk that an analytical essay will seem like a summary.

Conclusion of an analytical essay

The end is the wrapping up of all the things after building up the body paragraphs, giving some proper evidence to support every claim and the tying back of that evidence to the topic sentence. The conclusion usually refers to a summary; this part should consist of the discussion of all the critical points in an analytical essay without any repeat of a single statement. There must be a logical sense leading to the conclusion from the body of the analytical essay. Use of several transition words in the end that shows the relation between paragraphs. Some experts recommend that a judgment should be after the introduction. A student should paraphrase the thesis statement of an analytical essay in conclusion. The conclusion part should extend by summarizing some main points from the body paragraph and by providing some predictions or implementations. The final statement of the completion that is the ending point of the analytical essay could be a recommendation, an explanation, or a hook sentence that was already in the opening line (can end up with some joke, a quote, or a rhetorical question). There should be no new ideas in the lasting paragraph of the analytical essay.

Difference between an Analytical essay and a critical essay

The analysis of a literary text refers to an analytical essay. Although the critical essay not only involves the study of the text question, there is also a dissection of some literary terms and use of some devices by the author to clarify the meaning so that anyone can understand it.
